Google Slides for the Letter of the Week Focus Wall Set!

Here is another fun way to teach the alphabet virtually:  try out our Letter of the Week Google Slides set!  This is a digital version of our Letter of the Week Focus Wall, with a version for Pre-Kinder/Transitional Kindergarten and a version for Kindergarten/First Grade. These CUTE slides give children daily practice in the identification of the alphabet, and also in recognizing those letters in various fonts!  They also give the children practice in naming words that begin with the same letter.

We have TWO packets, sold separately this time. The Pre-K/TK version has the Letters & Sounds songs included, whereas the Kinder/First grade version contains our Alphabet Formation songs instead. (Click the links to see samples, but keep in mind that this set ONLY includes the AUDIO, not the VIDEO.) Otherwise, they are identical in every other way. :)

When you display each slide, the kids will:
-Say the letter name and sound
-Sing the song for each letter (The audio files are included for all letters; just click on the speaker icon!)
-Draw the letter in the air
-Do the “Alphabet Action” (such as “run” for the letter R in the top right of the chart.)
-Identify the beginning sound pictures, and do an action for each one. (The kids help to generate ideas for the actions!)
-Practice identifying all of the letters at the bottom or end of the file.

Here is a video of one of my students from last year doing the Letter of the Week with me virtually!

This keeps the kids actively engaged and it’s LOTS of fun! You may also wish to have them tell you if the letter is a vowel or a consonant, or tell which letter comes before or after in ABC order, whether the letter is tall or short, etc.

Both the PreK/TK and the K/1st packets cover the letters from A-Z, and has 26 slide decks included, and each deck has approximately 25-30 slides. We added the Alphabet Action song as a bonus, too! Each letter has one song included which has been embedded into the slide. Just click the speaker icon to play the song. The Alphabet Action song is on a separate slide, since it goes all the way from A-Z rather than focusing on just one letter at a time. I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you do some motions with the songs. There are no videos included in this set, but you can make up your own motions, or download a written description of my motions from our website here. If you subscribe to our video subscription service, you can also check the motions there, too.

Our original product, the Letter of the Week Focus Wall, is printable and sized to fit on a pocket chart! However, this version is designed to be used digitally, (either online, or in person to project it in an extra large format.) So, although you could print it, each of these Google Slides is probably too large for most pocket charts.

These slides have been redesigned to be more eye catching and “prettier” than our print version, too! However, the basic content is the same. To access the slides, you will click on the link provided after your purchase, and it will prompt you to make a copy of it for your own Google Drive. When you make a copy, you can name it whatever you like and distribute it to your OWN students via whatever learning management system you use, such as Google Classroom or Canvas, Seesaw, etc. Please note that when you purchase one product, this is only a license for use in one teacher’s class.

You may or may not wish to display every single slide for each letter, depending on your instructional goals. Thankfully, it is very easy to “hide” certain slides in the file. For example, I do not always use the Letter Practice slides at the end each slide deck with my Transitional Kindergartners (TKs) due to their attention span and time constraints, but you may wish to do so. To hide a slide, first select it, then go to the menu. Tap “Slide,” and then select “skip.” Please note that this product is NOT EDITABLE beyond the ability to skip the slides you do not wish to display.

If you don't use Google Slides, the POWERPOINT version of the product is available here for PreK/TK and here for K/1st Grade. NOTE: The PowerPoint version DOES NOT come with any audio.
