Sight Word Easter Egg Hunt!

The Sight Word Easter Egg Hunt is a fun and quick activity to do this week or even right after the big day! Just print the words on the plastic eggs and hide them! Then send your kiddos out to find the eggs, and write the words down that are on the eggs. They do not gather the eggs up; they just record the words they find on our cute little, free recording sheet!

Our kids were just BURSTING with excitement as they searched for the eggs! We did this in small groups as part of our rotation for our language arts instruction one day. It was a HUGE HIT! They were SO THRILLED each time they found an egg!

My favorite part was when the kids would spell the words aloud and then say the words that they found. They were TOTALLY using the spelling songs that they learned to help them figure out the words. BINGO! I love it when I can just SEE the learning transfer over!

All you have to do is get some of those plastic eggs that are everywhere these days, and make sure that you use an oil based Sharpie Paint Pen so that the words last longer on those eggs. Even so, they are pretty easy to rub off, LOL! I found that it was easier for them to hide more eggs than there were spaces on the recording sheet. Otherwise, if they were missing just one or two words, we had to go around the room to figure out which word they forgot to write down.

Of course, then some of the kids were irritated that there were still more eggs to find, but no more spaces to write the words! Gee, I REALLY didn’t expect THAT to happen! I just figured that they would be happy to be done and get to color the recording sheet. Ha ha! You may wish to tell those kids that they can write the other words that they find on the back.

Notice that the recording sheet even includes a little drawing of our “Bunny Bags” that we made to collect our eggs when we have our REAL egg hunt this Friday!  You can get the pattern for the Bunny Bags here FREE if you want it!

Enjoy, and have a wonderful holiday!

P.S. Here is the paint pen I use to write on the eggs!
