They are super cute and incredibly useful as a collection! Keep reading for more info below and some video examples! :)

First, let's review again what the Dolch Lists are. The Dolch Word List is a list of frequently used words in the English Language. Edward William Dolch compiled this list of words in 1936, based on his research of children's literature of his time. He basically counted and tallied up all of the words most commonly used in children's books to figure out which words children would find the most often when reading. That way, teachers would know what to focus on! When he was done, he wound up with a list of 220 "high frequency words," or "sight words" that children would need to know "on sight" (or without sounding out) in order to read fluently. He decided to exclude the nouns and put them in a separate list of 95 words. You can download the Dolch nouns word list here! You can download the list of Dolch Words here.

This video collection contains the first 48 words from the original Dolch Basic list created by Edward Dolch, beginning with the most commonly found word in the English language ("the") and moving on from there! Check out the word list below for clarification. We used the same, high quality songs and animated movies from our HeidiSongs Sight Word series, this custom word list makes learning so much easier! All the videos feature catchy songs, the words written out onscreen, and fun movements choreographed to help with memorization to help children easily memorize the spellings of the toughest high frequency words.

Dolch Sight Word Song Collection - Pre-Primer 40 Words

This video collection includes the first 40 words from the Dolch Pre-Primer grade level list.  So, the basic difference is that these are the 40 EASIEST, BEGINNING READING words from the Dolch list, whereas the other Dolch Basic collection mentioned previously has the most COMMON words from the Dolch list. Get it? We have found that most teachers use either the regular or Dolch "basic" list, or the Dolch lists in which the words are ordered by difficulty in order to teach the sight words, so we wanted to provide both! Check out the word list below for clarification. These are the words most commonly taught in Kindergarten and early first grade.
